You know the feeling. The phone rings and it's the in-laws, your spouse's new boss or the president of the PTA. Whoever it is, they just happen to be in the neighborhood and would love to pop in and say "Hi." You say you would love to see them, but inside you begin to panic. It's been a hectic day and the house is in no shape for company. Don't fret! You can tidy a room quickly.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Duster
  •
Vacuum
  1. Step 1

Step outside. But don't keep walking! Walk back into your home and take a quick look around. What areas do you notice right away? Zero in on those spots.

  2. Step 2

Grab a box or a bin and make a quick run around the room, grabbing toys, books, shoes and anything that doesn't belong in the room. Stash it out of sight--you can put it away correctly later.

  3. Step 3

Grab a feather duster, static duster or something similar. Quickly make your way around the room, dusting off the most visible areas.

  4. Step 4

Run the vacuum cleaner. A freshly vacuumed carpet makes any room appear tidier.

  5. Step 5

Step outside again and take another look in. See if you missed anything, or if the room looks pretty tidy.

Tips & Warnings
  • Light some scented candles or liquid potpourri. The fresh scent will make your room seem tidier.
  •
Turn on a light or two. The lighting makes the room look automatically cleaner.
