Tell your dad you need to follow your dream.

The thought of following dad into his couch upholstery business, or any type of conventional career, may make you gag. Especially if you have stars, and wrestling mats, in your eyes. It may not be easy to tell your father you want to be a pro wrestler, but you may even get his blessing with a few steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Set time aside to sit down with your dad. “Dad, I want to talk about my career plans.”

    • 2

Tell him all his ideas for your future are well and good, and you appreciate all he's done, but you need to pursue your dream of becoming a pro wrestler.

    • 3

Pull out your research that shows how much money pro wresters make, the type of experience and training that leads to this goal and all the contacts you’ve made in the field you’re going to contact.

    • 4

Outline all you’ve done so far to pursue this career path and what you intend to do. “I’ve wrestled since I was 6 years old, won 32 wrestling titles in college and have been in every drama club available.”

    • 5

Assure him you won’t get killed or maimed. Remind him pro wrestling does take talent and strength but also a lot of show. “After all, dad, it’s not like I want to be a boxer.”

    • 6

Have a backup plan. Tell him if the pro wrestling doesn’t work out, you can still use all you gained pursing this path by becoming a wrestling coach, drama instructor or performer in Las Vegas.

Tips & Warnings

  • Stay focused and stay serious in your conversation.

  • Don’t start whining about how “you never let me do what I want.”
