How to Bridge Embarq 660 DSL Modem

This tell how to bridge a Embarq 660 DSL Modem which turn off the internal router and firewall.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Embarq 660 DSL Modem
  1. Step 1

    Print this out. When doing this you will temporally loose connection to the internet.

  2. Step 2

    Be Sure the Embarq 660 modem is hookup directly to your pc. Which means yellow ethernet cable coming out the back of your modem to back of computer.

  3. Step 3

    Next click on Internet Explorer Icon on your desktop.

  4. Step 4

    Once Internet Explorer has opened. In the address bar type 192.168.2.1 and hit enter.

  5. Step 5

    The Internet Explorer screen will come up to a screen saying the 'EQ-660R - Enter Password and click Login'. You enter a default password of 1234 and click Login.

  6. Step 6

    It will ask you to change your password. Its not recommend and click on ignore.

  7. Step 7

    Next it may ask you to Replace Factory Default Certificate. Click on ignore. If does not come up go to the next step.

  8. Step 8

    Next the Main Menu will appear. Under Maintenance click on Diagnostic.

  9. Step 9

    Next click on Network Layer

  10. Step 10

    Next click on release under WAN IP and then click on change to bridge mode.

  11. Step 11

    You modem is now bridge. You will not next reboot you modem and pc for the pc pull public ip address.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you wish go back to the original settings. Just take a pen or pencil to the hole in the back of the modem and hold for 30 - 60 seconds.
  • If you hard reset the modem if go back to the default settings.

on 7/25/2009 Step 11 is confusing. What does it mean by "You will not next reboot you modem and pc for the pc pull public ip address."
