Walking is one of the greatest ways to stay fit, relieve stress and get a gander at the great outdoors. But walking becomes a horror if you mess up your feet. You can protect your feet while walking with a few simple tips.

From Quick Guide: Walking 101
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Quality shoes
  • Observational skills
  1. Step 1

Wear appropriate shoes. A walk on the beach should not include high-heels, just as a trek through the woods wouldn’t fare well in flip-flops.

  2. Step 2

Invest in footwear. Don’t get chintzy when it comes to a quality pair of walking shoes with appropriate traction, stability and arch support.

  3. Step 3

Wear socks! Of course, this does not apply to flip-flops or other shoes that don’t require them, but in a lot walking cases, your feet will be safer and more comfortable with socks on. Many blisters happen because someone was too lazy to pull on a pair of socks. Believe me, I know.

  4. Step 4

Watch your step. While the view of the skyline or tree tops may be captivating, spend some time looking down where you're walking. Even with shoes on, it’s best not to step on glass shards, slippery rocks or wild animal parts.

Tips & Warnings
  • If walking barefoot, it becomes more important to watch your step. It also becomes necessary to give yourself weekly pedicures to get rid of all the rough skin you build up.
  • Don't forget sunscreen on bare feet.
  • Don’t walk around with rocks, sand and sharp mystery items digging into your foot.
