How to Keep Teenagers from Pranking on Halloween

  1. Step 1

Host a Halloween party. No one can resist, especially a teenager, a fun and exciting party so invite a bunch of their friends, set up the house with Halloween decorations. Get a list of good Halloween music to play and make sure the guests wear their Halloween costume. Your teen will barely think about pranking when preoccupied with more fun things to do.

  2. Step 2

Suggest that they spend their night taking their sister or brother out trick or treating. Also check in on your neighbors to make sure your child went house to house chaperoning their kid sister or brother.

  3. Step 3

Allow them to have a sleepover with friends so they can watch their favorite Halloween movies if you know and trust the parents of the friend.

  4. Step 4

Get involved. If you have a young teen, suggest you hang with them that night. You can help them provide candy for treat or treaters and keep an eye on them.

  5. Step 5

Remind them there is consequence they will face if there is any activity that doesn't meet your approval. The punishment can involve cleaning up any mess they'd made with the neighbor's property and apologizing for it, being grounded or even worse. Communicate with them how any illegal activity can land them in jail, and how you will react to such a thing.

Tips & Warnings
  • Talk things out. Make sure you teen knows where you stand.
  • Don't be too strict. Nothing inspires rebellion like nonsensical rules.
