How to Do Chin Ups

Chin-ups are a great exercise to try when you are trying to build up strength in your arms. As opposed to lifting weights above your head, you are pulling your body weight up in the air using your arm, shoulder and back muscles.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Step1
Find a place to do your chin-ups. Chin-ups require a sturdy horizontal pole that is strong enough to hold your body weight. You can usually find a suitable bar at a children's playground or outdoor fitness course. Be sure the pole is high enough to prevent you from using your feet to help yourself up.
Step2
Warm up before you exercise with a few stretches and light calethsenics. Warmed up muscles are less likely to be injured during your work out.
Step3
Reach your arms above your head and grasp the bar with your palms facing away from you. If your palms are facing you, the exercise is considered a pull-up.
Step4
Pull your body up until the bar is even with your upper chest, or as far as you can manage.
Step5
Lower your body back down until your arms are straight.
Step6
Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for as many repetitions as you can comfortably perform.
