Anusara yoga would lack grandly if it did not include meditation. The former sets the mood, tone and your openness to grace for your practice while the latter allows you to absorb all the goodness and comfort you’ve just experienced. A few simple steps will help you meditate in Anusara yoga.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Yoga mat or other flat surface
  • Singing bowl, chimes or bells (optional)
  1. Step 1

Roll out your mat and sit cross legged or in the lotus pose in the middle of it.

  2. Step 2

Ring the singing bowl as you close your eyes and begin a series of deep inhalations and exhalations.

  3. Step 3

Keeping your back straight and your eyes closed, continue to breathe, concentrating on opening to grace and offering yourself for the best yoga practice you can perform that day.

  4. Step 4

Continue to meditate for at least 10 minutes then begin your workout.

  5. Step 5

Keep the meditative mode going during your workout by concentrating fully on the present and the movements of your body.

  6. Step 6

After your poses are complete, lie in corpse pose, covering your eyes with a towel or eye pillow and allowing your body to sink into the earth.

  7. Step 7

Again begin to meditate using the above techniques until you are infused with calm, enter the fourth dimension and/or burst with bliss.

Tips & Warnings
  • The singing bowl is a great way to kick off any meditation as it clears the air for positive energy. Besides, dogs like the sound of it.
  • Shut off the phone, disconnect the doorbell and do whatever else you need to insure you are not disturbed.
