Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Plain slippers or flip-flops
  • Silk flowers
  • Sequins, either loose or sequined ribbon
  • Colorful ribbon
  • Appliqués
  • Straight pins
  • Low-temp glue gun
  • Low-temp glue sticks
  • Thread to match
  • Heavy-duty needles
  • Scissors

    How to Make Decorative Slippers

  1. Step 1

Experiment with the items you have to decorate the slippers. Pin the silk flowers, ribbon or appliqués into place and determine how you want them to look before proceeding.

  2. Step 2

Remove the silk flower from the stem. Use the low-temp glue gun to secure the flower to the plastic green bottom so it will hold its shape.

  3. Step 3

Measure ribbon by laying it along the slipper. Add a little bit more length on either end so you can turn it under. Cut the ribbon. Put a dot of low-temp glue to the end of the underside of the ribbon and fold over the edge. It will help prevent the ribbon from fraying.

  4. Step 4

Use the low-temp glue gun to glue the silk flowers, ribbons, appliqués or sequins to the slippers or flip-flops. Make sure the decorative items are exactly where you want them; low-temp glue dries quickly. Attach one item at a time rather than squirting a lot of glue on the slipper and then trying to place the items.

  5. Step 5

You can also use a needle and thread to attach the decorative items to the slippers. While this might take a bit longer, the items will stay on the slippers better than with just glue.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can use low-temp glue or a needle and thread and sew hooks and loops tape or dots to the top of the slippers and the bottom of the decorative items. This will allow you to change the look of your slippers.
  • Supervise children if they are decorating slippers.
