Decorate your pottery to reflect your personality. Whether your desired look is vivid or subtle, the sponge method can achieve it.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Acrylic paints in desired colors
  • Household sponges, cut into squares or other shapes
  • Paper towels
  • Artist's paint tray
  • Stencil patterns
  • Water source to rinse sponges
  1. Step 1

Prepare your paint tray by filling the pods with your desired colors.

  2. Step 2

With the sponge of your choice, dip the sponge gently into the color that you would like to start with.

  3. Step 3

Dab off the excess paint onto a paper towel.

  4. Step 4

Pressing the sponge onto the pottery piece, create your design. Take note to the amount of pressure it takes to create patterns that you like. You can blend colors, make fluffy clouds, sunny sky's or even abstract art designs on your pottery.

  5. Step 5

You can also place a stencil pattern on your pottery project and using the sponge, dab the color on. You can add different colors to create objects and highlights.

  6. Step 6

When you have completed your work of art, protect it with a light spray of your transparent sealer.

Tips & Warnings
  • Cover your workspace with newspaper for easy cleanup!
  • Rinse sponges afterward, so they are usable for your next art project.
  • Only use your spray sealer in a well-ventilated area or outside.
