The jacket that you choose to wear can make or break your snowboarding experience. Your snowboarding jacket keeps you safe from the elements, providing a warm, dry environment so that you can remain comfortable on the snow for hours. Here is how to choose a snowboarding jacket.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Consider the local weather conditions where you do most of your snowboarding. If the area has a lot of sunny days, you will probably want to choose a light snowboarding jacket, but if the weather is more extreme, you will want to choose a heavier snowboarding jacket.

  2. Step 2

Think about whether or not you want an all-weather jacket. If you snowboard in a variety of conditions, you may want to consider a single jacket that covers them all. Look for something that has a removable hood and removable inner lining so that you can adjust your snowboarding jacket to suit the weather conditions.

  3. Step 3

Determine how much weather proofing you need on your snowboarding jacket. Jackets used for snowboarding are specifically designed for the elements. There are various degrees of waterproofing and windproofing on these jackets, allowing you to choose the perfect weather proof jacket for you area.

  4. Step 4

Decide how much storage you require on your jacket. If you snowboard with the basics, then a simple jacket to keep you warm and dry will be enough. If you like to carry a lot of items with you, then you will probably opt for a sportier model that contains lots of inside and outside pockets.

  5. Step 5

Never forget about the price. If you’re not careful, the jacket could end up being the most expensive piece of snowboarding equipment that you own. Set a budget ahead of time and stick to that budget when you’re buying the jacket.

Tips & Warnings
  • On most snowboarding jackets, the waterproofing will not work as well if they jacket is dirty. Should your jacket become dirty, follow the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions to restore the jacket’s water resistant nature.
