Things You'll Need:
- Pool table
- Pool balls
- Pool rack
- Pool chalk
- Triangle rack
-
Step 1
Rack the balls. Using the triangle rack, rack your balls on the table opposite to the end where you will break them from. Make sure that the rack is tight—this will enable you to really break those balls up.
-
Step 2
Choose and chalk the stick. Use the pool chalk and apply a generous portion to the tip of the stick that you intend to break the balls with. Typically you will want to use a wider and heavier stick to break with for more force. A 20 gauge rated stick or heavier will work fine.
-
Step 3
Place the cue ball in desired position. Set the cue ball on the billiard table opposite to the racked balls. Make sure that you have the ball in the desired position. The most common is in the middle of the table just before the second notch, which is the longest that a cue ball may extend during a break.
-
Step 4
Break the balls. To hold the stick, balance one end in the hand of preference about a foot and half from the tip and resting in between your thumb and forefinger. Use your other hand to hold the thick end of the stick, about a foot from the end. Let the thin end of your stick slide through your thumb and forefinger as you swipe it forwards using the grip of your hand on the thicker end of the stick. The harder that you swipe it forwards the better that your break will be.
