Things You'll Need:
- A horse that bites
- A round pen
-
Step 1
Don’t get in the corral with a horse that is going to bite you. Work on changing his behavior first.
-
Step 2
Training a horse to prevent being bitten is all about identifying and protecting your personal space—don’t let the horse invade your personal space.
-
Step 3
Put the horse in a round pen; when he starts to nip at you, pressure him to go around in the round pen until he wants to quit. Approach him again, and if he thrusts at you with his muzzle, pressure him again. After two or three times, he will catch on that you will not accept his biting behavior.
-
Step 4
Corrections to the horse’s behavior should be swift and immediate. Corporal punishment isn’t necessary to get good results.
