Things You'll Need:
- An understanding of your options
- A Budget for Spending
-
Step 1
Consider the type of grip you would like to have on the handle. Some people enjoy having pistol gripped handles, which make it very difficult to be disarmed, but new fencers may find it difficult to hold. Most people prefer the simple, straight-forward French grip fencing weapon.
-
Step 2
Try to balance cost and quality. Cheap fencing weapons are ok for day-to-day use, but they are far more prone to breaking and should not be used in competitive tournaments.
-
Step 3
Consider the weight and balance of the fencing weapon. You will be holding the weapon in an outstretched arm, moving it, and meeting hard resistance from your competitor. Hold the weapon out and see how it feels.
