How to Help Your Baby Stand and Sit
It seems like yesterday your baby was just a lump on the couch and she couldn't get anywhere. Now she's a crawling maniac, anxious to get around the house and explore. The latest step in her development is trying to pull up and stand against the furniture, the dog or your leg. Then once she gets up there, she can't figure out how to sit back down again. This is a big milestone, and she'll need your help to navigate her newly discovered standing talents. Practice is the key on her part, and patience is the key on yours.

1
Watch or follow your baby around as she crawls. She'll eventually come to something like a table or couch and attempt to pull up on it. Let your baby pull herself up as much as she can on her own. She'll probably get her head stuck under the table. When she fusses, help her by adjusting her body so she can stand straight. She'll be thrilled.

2
Let her stand as long as she wants. Stay next to her in case she slides sideways or falls. Set her back up.

3
She'll want to sit down after awhile. She'll get fussy and bend her knees, but probably won't be so sure about dropping all the way down. Let her experiment as long as possible before showing her how to do it by helping.
-
4
Let her crawl and practice as much as possible. Try to remove rolling chairs or toys from her path, since she could get hurt pulling up on those.
-
5
Set up benches or toy crates and let her balance herself against them. Gently set her back in a sitting position and watch her stand back up again.
