You’re a makeup artist for a local theater and you turned a young twenty-something actor into an evil pirate by using nose putty and a fake beard. Now the show is over and you have to remove the 3D makeup. It isn't difficult but you want to do it carefully so you can reuse the beard for the next performance.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Dental Floss
  • Spirit gum remover
  • Cotton swabs
  1. Step 1

Nose putty cannot be reused, but you still want to be careful removing it from the actor’s face. Take a length of dental floss, wrap the ends around your fingers and insert it under the top edge of the nose putty. Gently move it down the actor’s nose, until the putty comes off.

  2. Step 2

A fake beard can be reused if it is removed and cleaned carefully. Take a cotton swab and insert it in the spirit gum remover. Rub the cotton swab gently over a small spot on the outer edge of the beard until the beard pulls away from the actor’s face.

  3. Step 3

Use a fresh cotton swab and the spirit gum remover and insert it between the actor’s face and the beard. Rub the cotton swab back and forth, until the spirit gum softens. When you need to get more spirit gum remover, use a fresh cotton swab. Continue rubbing the dampened cotton swab underneath the beard until all the edges are freed.

  4. Step 4

Use a fresh cotton swab and the spirit gum remover to remove the rest of the spirit gum from the actor’s face. Then the actor can finish removing the rest of his makeup with whatever makeup remover he uses.

  5. Step 5

Use a fresh cotton swab and the spirit gum remover to remove any residue of spirit gum that remains on the beard. Allow the beard to dry completely before storing it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure to insert only fresh cotton swabs into the spirit gum remover, so you don't contaminate it with old spirit gum or facial oils from the actor.
  • Be careful not to get spirit gum remover near the actor’s eyes.
