Things You'll Need:
- Money
- Personal watercraft rental outlet
-
Step 1
Research the area you are going to. Look in the yellow pages and call ahead to find out when and if you can rent a personal watercraft. If possible, do not book the reservation ahead of time in case you do not make it to your scheduled destination on time. Very few places will give refunds for inclement weather or no-shows. Use a credit card in case you need to cancel.
-
Step 2
When walking along the beach, look for tents or retail outlets and parked watercraft. This gives a good indication that rental places are nearby. Stop and inquire about pricing, terms and time limits.
-
Step 3
Call lake and beach resorts near your home, business or vacation destination to see what their rates are and if they have availability. Make sure you feel comfortable with the pricing, terms, conditions and anything else. Ask the locals what places they recommend as well.
-
Step 4
Ask for a wet suit or bring one yourself. This offers you greater protection against the elements or if you fall off the watercraft. You may also want to have a pair of goggles with you. Remove your sunglasses, contacts or other glasses if needed as you may lose them.
-
Step 5
Make sure the watercraft is in good working condition and a life vest is provided. Ask as many questions as you need to. Some places may make you watch a safety video. If you are not comfortable, return the watercraft to shore immediately and ask for another or a refund.
-
Step 6
Understand and study all the local rules and boundaries of where you will be riding the watercraft. Know where the no-wake and slow zones are located. Take a passenger with you to help. Know what to do if you get into trouble and how to get a tow, if needed.
