Let somebody know where you are going and when you plan to return. Never go rock climbing alone unless you let a few people know where you are headed and how long you plan to be gone. This way if you do get lost or injured people will know where to look for you if you do not return on schedule.

Adhere to the climbing rules. While most climbing professionals will maintain that you should never climb alone, they will also agree that if you are climbing alone you must follow the height rules. This means no lead climbing without a person to belay you; no ropes. It also means that you never climb higher up on a cliff or a boulder than your standing height.
