Most people use their pocket PCs to keep track of their appointments, surf the internet or make phone calls. They also can use these devices to read e-books. With the latest e-book readers often costing a small bundle, using your pocket PC can save you money. This tutorial assumes you do not have an Internet connection on your pocket PC.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Download a copy of Microsoft Active Sync to your computer and pocket PC. Most pocket PCs run on some form of Microsoft Windows program. Without this software, you will be unable to download anything to your pocket PC.
Step2
Download the appropriate software for the e-book format you have chosen. Make this decision based on which formats you prefer for your e-books, whether that is PDF, Mobipocket, Microsoft Reader or some other format.
Step3
Purchase one e-book to download to your computer or find a free download. Either way, you must download the e-book to your home computer before transfering it to your pocket pc.
Step4
Connect your pocket PC to your home computer. Read your handbook to find out how to do this.
Step5
Click on "Explore" once your pocket PC is connected to your computer. Microsoft Active Sync should automatically open up a window to reveal several folders. You can download one of your e-books to a folder that already exists, or create one for your e-books.
Step6
Find the e-books on your computer's hard drive. Drag it with your mouse and drop it in the folder in which you'll store your e-books on your pocket pc. That's all there is to it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be open to purchasing e-books in more than one format. Sometimes only one or two formats will be available. Adobe Acrobat Reader for Pocket PC and Microsoft Reader for Pocket PC offer a wider variety of books.
  • The e-book reading software for pocket PCs is specialized. Don't download the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader or Microsoft Reader that you would download to your home computer. Neither will work. Download the versions that are designed for pocket PCs.
