How to Do Neck Side Bends for Rehabilitation

Neck pain do to injury, sometimes requires rehabilitation in order to regain normal range of motion. Therapeutic stretching can relieve the discomfort brought on by trauma. Neck side bends are one type of rehabilitation exercise that can help rid you of neck pain and stop it from coming back.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    SIt in a comfortable chair and look straight ahead.

  2. Step 2

    Sit up straight and keep your arms resting in your lap.

  3. Step 3

    Slowly tilt your head to the right, with your ear moving toward your shoulder.

  4. Step 4

    Keep stretching until you feel a tightening.

  5. Step 5

    Next slowly move your head back to center.

  6. Step 6

    Slowly tilt your head to the left, once again with your ear moving toward your shoulder. Continue until you feel a tightening. Then bring your head back to center.

  7. Step 7

    Repeat this exercise 10 times.

Tips & Warnings
  • This exercise is great because you can do it anywhere. For a bit of a change, you can do it with a ball. Place a soft ball between your ear and a wall. Add pressure and tilt your head towards the wall. Repeat on other side.
  • Be sure that a physician has approved this exercise for your rehabilitation program.
  • Only stretch until you feel a tightening. Hyperextending can make the situation worse.
