Things You'll Need:
- Paper toweling
- Full beard
- Scissors
- Makeup pencil
- Spirit gum
- Small brush
- Orange stick
- Spirit gum remover
- Cotton swab
- Cotton ball
-
Step 1
Ask the actor to wash his face and, if necessary, shave. Make sure that he does not use aftershave or moisturizer. Pat the actor’s face with the paper toweling to make sure it is completely dry.
-
Step 2
Hold the beard against the actor’s face to determine if it needs trimming. If it does, trim off a little and check again to see if it fits. It’s better to trim a little at a time, so you don’t cut off too much and mess up the beard.
-
Step 3
Hold the trimmed beard against the actor’s face and use the makeup pencil to lightly trace the outer edges of where the beard fits against the face.
-
Step 4
Apply a thin layer of spirit gum in the penciled area using the small brush. Allow the spirit gum to set to a tacky stage. You can tap the spirit gum with your finger to speed this process up a bit, but be sure to clean it from your fingers using spirit gum remover and a cotton swab.
-
Step 5
Place the beard carefully against the tacky spirit gum and smooth it onto the actor's face. Hold the beard in place until it stays there. Be careful not to get the spirit gum on your fingers while holding the beard; use an orange stick or some other object to hold the beard if need be. Allow the spirit gum to dry completely.
-
Step 6
Remove any spirit gum from the brush and orange stick with spirit gum remover and a cotton ball. Then wash and clean the brush and allow to dry.
