How to Polish Boots

Unless you are a working ranch hand, you don’t want to be wearing boots coated with dust and . . . stuff. Nice boots look even nicer when they are cleaned and shined to a beautiful patina. Polish your boots and you can have them looking almost like new.

Things You'll Need

• A pair of leather boots
• Soft cloths
• Polish
• Saddle soap or other leather cleaner

Instructions

1. Clean your boots before you polish them. Use a brush to knock dirt and grass off your boots. Use saddle soap or some other kind of leather cleaner to clean your boots. When they are dry, buff them.

2. Select a polish that nearly matches the color of your boot leather. If they’re pink or yellow, you may need to select a colorless polish.

3. Use a soft cloth to apply a thin coat of polish over the entire surface of the boot. Place one hand and arm in the boot to support the boot and create a firm surface to work on. Work the polish in to the leather; pay special attention to cuts and scratches in the leather.

4. Use a clean soft cloth to wipe away excess polish.

5. Buff or brush your boots to a lovely shine.
