How to Polish Boots

Unless you are a working ranch hand, you don’t want to be wearing boots coated with dust and . . . stuff. Nice boots look even nicer when they are cleaned and shined to a beautiful patina. Polish your boots and you can have them looking almost like new. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • A pair of leather boots
  • Soft cloths
  • Polish
  • Saddle soap or other leather cleaner

Instructions

      Clean your boots before you polish them. Use a brush to knock dirt and grass off your boots. Use saddle soap or some other kind of leather cleaner to clean your boots. When they are dry, buff them.

      Select a polish that nearly matches the color of your boot leather. If they’re pink or yellow, you may need to select a colorless polish.

      Use a soft cloth to apply a thin coat of polish over the entire surface of the boot. Place one hand and arm in the boot to support the boot and create a firm surface to work on. Work the polish in to the leather; pay special attention to cuts and scratches in the leather.

      Use a clean soft cloth to wipe away excess polish.

      Buff or brush your boots to a lovely shine.
