Facials may seem to be something that women and even men want, but the fact is that a facial is either going to turn out wonderfully or disastrous. The results of a facial can leave a person with radiantly glowing skin or a skin breakout from hell and sometimes even an infection. If you follow a few simple rules, you will be fine but if you don't then you might be in for an unwanted surprise.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A spa that specializes in facials
  • The facts on what type of products that the spa uses for facials
  1. Step 1

Choose wisely when picking a spa for your facial. Make sure they take facials and skin care seriously. Stay clear of places that offer many services but do have a sign that offers facials too.

  2. Step 2

Talk to the facialist first before getting your facial. The facialist should ask you a series of questions about any allergies that you might have or if any of the products that they use might be too harsh for your face.

  3. Step 3

Protect yourself by making sure that the facialist wears gloves when doing extractions. Also, remember that a facial should never hurt.

  4. Step 4

Stick with the facial at the spa. If you want to get further treatment such as microdermabrasions, it is best to see a dermatologist. When the spa tries to add on extras keep in mind that oxygen treatments are a waste and collagen masks can be done at home for a fraction of the cost.

  5. Step 5

Care for your face well after a facial as it is now vulnerable for about a week. Avoid harsh scrubs, alpha hydroxy scrubs and retinoids.

Tips & Warnings
  • Look around when you arrive at the spa and make sure that it is sterile and clean.
  • Often facial products such as vitamin C, retinol and certain prescription drugs could irritate already sensitive skin.
  • If you have acne or rosacea, you should avoid facials altogether.
