Opening to grace will give you a whole new outlook on life.

One of the greatest joys of Anusara yoga is the connection and power you get from providing a channel for something bigger than you. You can apply the opening to grace principle in Anusara yoga with an effective warm up and continued practice keeping that channel in mind.

Instructions

    • 1

Begin your yoga practice by sitting cross legged or in lotus pose in the center of your mat.

    • 2

Close your eyes and breathe deeply, exhaling all tension and worry, inhaling the greater power of grace.

    • 3

Top off your meditation with a chant or hum, directing your breath from the center of your belly out towards your nose, asking the universe to help open that channel to grace.

    • 4

Stay very conscious of your desire to keep the channel open for grace to come in. This includes pulling your shoulder muscles back to keep you chest open, keeping arms aloft and palms upward in offering and maintaining a soft outlook so you don’t erect a wall.

    • 5

Keep your eyeballs relaxed, your face calm and look up towards the sky when possible in the poses, directing your attention to the force bigger than you.

    • 6

Finish off your yoga practice in corpse pose, again exhaling all tension and worry—if there happens to be any left after this awesome workout—inhaling the greater power of grace.

Tips & Warnings

  • You should get tingly from the get-go when you open to grace.

  • Don’t worry about spending half an hour or more in corpse pose if that’s where you want to stay.
