Vegetables provide nutrients, vitamins and fiber, making them a healthy addition to your diet. By finding different ways to include more vegetables on your menus, you will be more likely to eat them. One way is to steam your vegetables in the microwave.

From Quick Guide: Steaming Vegetables 101
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Wash your vegetables thoroughly. Cut or tear the vegetable into equal-sized pieces.

  2. Step 2

Place vegetables in a glass or other microwave-safe bowl.

  3. Step 3

Add 2 inches of water to the bowl.

  4. Step 4

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a microwave-safe cover.

  5. Step 5

Microwave on high for about 5 minutes. If you prefer crisper veggies, reduce the cooking time. If you want more tender vegetables, increase the cooking time in one-minute increments.

Tips & Warnings
  • Squash, which can take a long time in the oven, can be steamed quickly in the microwave.

on 9/17/2009 Note: there will be water left in the container when the vegetables are done being steamed. Simply scoop the veggies out with a slotted spoon or straing them before serving!
