Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Marinade Ingredients:
  • 3 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp. rice wine vinegar
  • 1 tbsp. garlic chili paste
  • 1 tsp. minced ginger
  • Sauce Ingredients:
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 4 tbsp. sherry cooking wine
  • 2 tbsp. cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp. soy sauce
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • Main Ingredients:
  • 2 tbsp. cooking oil
  • 2 cups fresh broccoli florets
  • 1 cup pea pods
  • 1 red bell pepper, cut into strips
  • 2 tbsp. sherry cooking wine
  • 1 lb. of boneless top round or sirloin
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 4 servings of cooked rice

    Prepare the Beef

  1. Step 1

Place the beef in the freezer and leave it there until it reaches a semi-frozen state. You do not want the meet to freeze, but you do want it to become firm enough that you can easily cut it into very thin, uniform slices.

  2. Step 2

Remove the beef from the freezer and cut into thin, uniform slices. Place the slices into a bowl or sturdy plastic container as you slice them.

  3. Step 3

Mix all of the marinade ingredients and pour over the beef slices. Allow the beef to marinate in this sauce for 15 minutes before you begin cooking, and keep marinating until you reach the point in the recipe where it is time to cook the beef.

  4. Make the Beef and Broccoli Stir-Fry

  5. Step 1

Using a large frying pan or a wok, heat 1 tbsp. of cooking oil, then add in the broccoli, pea pods and bell pepper. Stir-fry these vegetables in the pan for around 1 minute.

  6. Step 2

Add the 2 tbsp. of cooking wine to the mixture, then cover and allow it to cook for 2 minutes. After it has cooked, remove all ingredients from the wok and set aside.

  7. Step 3

Mix all sauce ingredients in a small bowl and set the resulting sauce aside.

  8. Step 4

Heat the other tablespoon of cooking oil in the wok, then add the beef and minced garlic. Allow mixture to cook for around 5 minutes or until the meat has been sufficiently browned.

  9. Step 5

Pour the sauce over the meat and allow the mixture to cook an additional 2 to 3 minutes or until the sauce thickens. Stir this mixture frequently to prevent the sauce from sticking and burning.

  10. Step 6

Return the vegetables to the wok and continue to stir-fry until all ingredients are hot.

  11. Step 7

Serve the beef and broccoli stir-fry over a bed of rice. Recipe makes 4 servings.

Tips & Warnings
  • While the marinade does give the flavor of the beef an extra kick, it is technically not essential and can be skipped if all ingredients cannot be found.
