Adding more vegetables to your diet is a surefire way to improve your health. Steaming vegetables allows you to retain nutrients and add delicious veggies to your table. Here are some steps to help you steam your vegetables perfectly every time!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Add an inch or two of water to your pot. Bring to a boil over high heat.

  2. Step 2

Wash your vegetables thoroughly and cut or break up into pieces that are all around the same size. This will ensure even cooking.

  3. Step 3

Place the steaming basket into the pot of boiling water. Place the vegetables into the basket and cover the pot.

  4. Step 4

Steam the vegetables over high heat, until they are to your liking. Tender veggies require longer steaming times, but if you want them crisp, check after only one to two minutes. Whole, uncut vegetables such as artichokes, can take much longer. To test, carefully remove the lid using an oven mitt and test with a fork.

  5. Step 5

When your vegetables have reached your desired texture, remove them from the heat and serve.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be very careful when removing the lid of the pot, as steam can cause serious burns.
