1
Create folders which will hold all printed materials. Start with one hundred stock folders with flaps. The flaps will contain the press releases and newspaper clips. Go to a printer and have the name of the film and the company name embossed on the front of the folder.
-
2
Create a director’s statement that talks about the person behind the film and a synopsis. The synopsis needs to read like the back of a DVD cover. You want to catch the eye of the potential buyer.

3
Create three synopsis of different lengths: the short synopsis is half a page, the medium synopsis is three quarters of a page and the long synopsis is a full page. Having three versions will allow the film to be reviewed by journalists easier. Journalists are less likely to leave out information if they have several versions to choose from.
-
4
Create biographies of key crew and cast that worked on the film. Also include a brief biography of yourself. If this is your first film include interesting pieces of your life before filmmaking, such as John Doe ex-landscaper produces his first film using his eye for detail and design.
-
5
Remember film hype is manufactured. Use the press kit to tell the public and critics what a talented filmmaker you are. Make sure to include photography stills that include key moments on the film set. Key moments includes stills of you producing or directing, posing with the cast and eye catching scene re-enactments.
-
6
Create the contact information of the individual who will negotiate with the buyer then covert your printed press kit into an EPK, also known as an electronic press kit, by scanning all materials onto a CD or DVD. This will enable festival staff, distributors and sales personnel to receive copies through email and to quickly reprint materials.
