Instructions

    • 1

Wear a backpack or shoulder bag. These are ideal for carrying your fragile items--like laptops, other electronics or anything made of glass--as your body acts as a shock absorber.

    • 2

Wear a fanny pack around your waist for carrying small personal items, like your keys, money, ID and sunglasses. Some even come with a compartment where you can carry your water bottle.

    • 3

Install a basket on the front of your bicycle. Straw or plastic is fine for lighter loads, but if you plan on carrying something heavy up there, go for a metal basket. Just remember that the more weight you put up front, the harder it’s going to be for you to steer.

    • 4

Install a rear rack over your back tire area if you want to use a bicycle to carry things. Simply use a bungee cord to tie things on or install a rear basket.

    • 5

Install panniers. They’re those saddle bags that hang on either side of the front and rear tires. They tend to be roomy and able to carry a great deal of weight. Just be sure to distribute weight evenly on all sides, with 40 percent up front and 60 percent in the back.

    • 6

Install an under-seat bag that attaches to the frame tube of your bicycle. They’re small, but they can be handy.

    • 7

Hitch a trailer to it if you want to use a bicycle to carry things that are big and bulky. There are many different types of trailers available, of all sizes, strengths and price ranges.
