How to Use Microsoft Virtual PC
There are many different operating systems, and sometimes we wish that we could try them all. However, doing this would normally require multiple computer systems to install them on. Luckily, technology is rapidly changing, and we now have ways to test out operating systems without causing lasting effects. Microsoft Virtual PC is a smart program that allows you to use several operating systems on one computer system. Your main computer's operating system can safely stay in working order. 1
Visit the Microsoft Virtual PC website and download the free application. The minimum requirements for a computer to run the program will be listed on the website. View this first before you make any changes to your computer system. With Virtual PC, you'll be able to easily create multiple virtual machines on your computer desktop. This will give you the best way to test downloadable software programs without making lasting changes to your existing computer system. Software testers will enjoy using Microsoft Virtual PC solely for this purpose.

2
Follow the on-screen directions after installing the Microsoft Virtual PC application. It should prompt you to create a virtual machine in the beginning stage. If for some reason it does not, select the “New” button and begin creating one anyway. At the end of this process, you should have a newly created virtual machine on which to install a software program or an entirely new operating system.

3
Create a specific name for the newly installed virtual machine. This will give you the chance to easily identify it. If you are installing multiple virtual machines with different operating systems, then choose a name based on this. You'll be able to quickly switch between each one without having to play a guessing game. Make sure that you have more than enough computer memory and hard drive space to handle several virtual machines. If your memory is low, then you will have major issues running this program successfully.

4
Choose the amount of computer memory you want your virtual machine to possess. Try not to choose a memory option larger than the physical one installed on your computer. You'll need enough to work with programs, but remember that your real computer operating system is still running. Overloading your computer system may place it at a high risk for crashing.

5
Decide on the destination for your virtual hard drive space. Usually, the default location will work out just fine. Select the “A New Virtual Hard Disk” option for setting this feature up. To keep everything working smoothly, consider rationing out 1 gigabyte of hard drive space. This will give you an ample amount of storage for saving and installing applications.

6
Complete the entire process by following the setup wizard. You'll be able to see your brand new Virtual PC icon and have access to it when you need to. Click the “Start” button, and it will prompt you to install the operating system CD. After completing this process, you'll be asked to restart your virtual computer system. Once you are ready, then you will be able to browse through this Virtual PC.
