Monologues are just as essential to actors as headshots and acting classes. Many agents request monolouges when they meet with an actor and it is absolutely key to have a great monologue in your arsenal for auditions. 1. Break it down once you've chosen your monologue. Find out how you can relate to it and apply it. Decide to whom you're talking in your monologue and commit to that. Decide who this character is.

2. Memorize your monologue. Make sure you know it beyond well before your next audition or meeting with an agent or manager.

3. Practice your monologue alone first. Then when you're comfortable with it, grab a friend and practice it in front of them. Have the person sit directly in front of you. Find something in that person that reminds you of the person you're talking to in the monologue.

4. Know that practicing in front of an audience is key. Many actors are thrown off when they have only practiced the monologue alone and then a casting director or agent is staring at them when they sit down or stand to perform it for them.
