In our world of mass usage, the need for recycling programs is immense. Today, finding a recycling program is the easy part of the task; remembering to recycle all of those reusable items can be the hard part.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Phone book
  • Internet connection
  • Computer
  • Trash man
Step1
Check the garbage. Many recycling programs are started by the same people who pick up the garbage from your home. It is wise to ask those garbage people or waste management workers if their company has an available recycling program. If so, the company will often provide free bins to separate the recyclable materials.
Step2
Flip the pages. The phone book is another great place to find a recycling program in your community. The recycling program may be listed under "recycling", "waste management" or "garbage disposal."
Step3
Check online. Inevitably, recycling programs in a specific area can be found on the Internet. The best part about searching the Internet is the chance of finding a recycling program that has been created by community members and not a for profit business.
Step4
If you can not find a local recycling program, start your own. There are many people who wish they could recycle the items they use every day, but, like you, have not found a program to take their recyclables. Starting a program can be quick and easy and helps the earth all the while.

Tips & Warnings

  • If a recycling program is found several towns away, try collecting the communities' recycled materials and making one trip per week.
