Silestone (or siltstone) countertops are countertops made crushed quartz and a polymer resin. To form this synthetic stone counter top, heat and pressure is used that is comparable to what is used to form volcanic rock and diamonds. This makes silestone the low maintenance, durable countertop surface that it is. Silestone countertops are scratch resistant and repel most stains. Some silestone countertops have added microban protection that eliminates bacterial growth. Still, as with most kitchen surfaces, you must be diligent about cleaning your silestone countertops.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Dish soap
  • Water
  • Soft cloths
  • Windex
  • Old toothbrush

Step1
Remove items and small appliances from the counter top. This will ensure that dirt and germs do not get brushed under the items to grow bacteria and germs.
Step2
Using a soft wet cloth with dish detergent on it wipe off the counter top thoroughly. Any gentle, hand washing detergent will do.
Step3
Rinse the cloth and wipe down the counter again to remove any soap as soap left behind will cause streaks. You may want to do this twice to remove all traces of soap.
Step4
Dry the counter tops with a clean cloth to eliminate streaks and make it shine.
Step5
Take special care cleaning the seams of your silestone countertops (if there is a visible seam). At least once a month, spray down the seam with Windex or another kitchen cleaner and gently brush with a toothbrush to remove any crumbs that may be embedded.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not use paint striper on silestone.
  • Do not use oven cleaners on silestone.
  • Avoid using a homemade vinegar and water solution of silestone regularly.
