Recycling is great for conserving the world's resources and for keeping our landfills clear of reusable items. Good recycling habits are easy to get into and when you have enough recyclables stored, the next step is to look for a recycling center in your neighborhood to sell your bottles, cans, paper and scrap metals. Reduce, reuse, recycle.

From Quick Guide: Going Green at Home
Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bins labeled for glass, cans, paper or bottles
  • Shed in which to keep scrap metal
  1. Step 1

Searching on the Internet for recycling centers is a great place to start. As well as finding a good recycling center with whom to sell your recyclables, you may find local groups to join who clean up and beautify neighborhoods and recycle the "trash" they pick up. As they say, "One man's trash is another man's treasure."

  2. Step 2

Picking up the Yellow Pages of your local phone book may reap a harvest of many recycling centers from which to choose. Call each one to see how much money they pay for the recyclables you want to haul to their business yard. This way all your diligent efforts will be rewarded.

  3. Step 3

Chatting with your neighbors is another great way of finding the best establishments to turn in your recyclables. Local people usually know the best centers with which to do business so write each of them down in a note book for easy reference.

Tips & Warnings
  • Store beverage cans in large black bags in an outdoor shed as unwelcome insects will be attracted to them and may cause an infestation of beetles, cockroaches and ants
  • Caution is needed when handling all scrap metal, including beverage cans, as these items are often sharp and jagged. Leather gloves are advised when handling
