Oslo's Vigeland Park

Oslo, the capital of Norway, is located in the southwestern part of the country, along the North Sea. The city, like other Scandanavian capitals, has a reputation for being very expensive. While that may be true for its hotels and eateries, Oslo offers a large number of free attractions.

Instructions

Explore Oslo's many free museums. Oslo offers a wide variety of museums with free admission. Among these are the National Gallery, best known for Edvard Munch's "Scream;" the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design; the Oslo City Museum and the Norwegian Museum of Magic.

Stroll through Vigeland Sculpture Park. One of Norway's most visited attractions, this green space is filled with more than 200 works in bronze, granite and cement by Norwegian sculptor, Gustav Vigeland.

    • 3

Rent a free bike. CityBike in Oslo offers hundreds of bikes for residents and visitors to "rent" for free. You'll have to leave a small deposit, but that is refunded when you return the bike. The maximum rental is three hours, but you can rent another bike when you return the first one.

View the changing of the guard. Like Great Britain, Norway is a constitutional monarchy. Its king and his family reside in the Royal Palace in the heart of Oslo. Each day at 1:30 p.m., the guard changes in front of the palace amid much pomp and pagentry. The show is free and usually relatively uncrowded.
