Step 1
Ask yourself several questions:* Is the shirt for you or a gift for someone?* What style shirt are you going to use--a standard T, V-neck and so forth?* What size shirt are you going to be dealing with (the larger the shirt, the more design you'll need to create)?* If a gift, what does that person like? What are their favorite hobbies, colors, music and so forth? Do they have any favorite sayings?Make a list of all answers so that you can refer back to them as you are designing the shirt.
-
Step 2
Shop for your T-shirt. Purchase one slightly larger than you would normally get, since the shirt should be washed before beginning, and it may shrink. Natural fabrics are best; a cotton or cotton-blend shirt wears well and will last for years. If purchasing for a female, keep in mind the style of clothes she likes to wear. If she doesn't like to show her arms, consider a short sleeve or 3/4-length sleeve instead of a tank or spaghetti-strap top. If she doesn't like things around her neck, don't reach for a crew neck; go for a V or a lower neckline so she'll be comfortable.
-
Step 3
Design placement on a standard T-shirtKeep most designs to a specific size/location on any T-shirt. If you can imagine a square placed just above center on any regular shirt, you should have the proper location. For V- or crew-neck shirts, especially when designing for ladies, you have a bit more leeway, for example, being able to use the V neckline for placement of leaves, flowers and such. Decide what your design will contain, keeping in mind that less is more, and work within that guide.
-
Step 4
Design for a woman's shirt just waiting for glitter!Allow your imagination to run wild. Remember that ladies may like any embellishments you'd like to put on your design, and incorporate them accordingly. Beads, crystals, colored paint, glitter--you name it, they'll love it.
