Step 1
Decorate. Christmas decorating can be a lot of fun and it’s your first step to filling yourself with the spirit of the season. Decorate the outside of your house with lights or put plug-in candles on your windowsills. Buy a Christmas tree and load it up with ornaments, tinsel and lights. Take out all of those Christmas wreaths and knick knacks that you’ve collected over the years and actually display them. Your house will look festive and it will get you in the mood for the Christmas season!

Step 2
Put up an advent calendar. An advent calendar is a fun way to count down the days until Christmas. Hang one in your kitchen and have the kids (or you) open one door on it every day until Christmas.
-
Step 3
Bake Christmas cookies. To be truly filled with Christmas spirit, you need to use your sense of smell. Nothing is better than the smell of Christmas cookies baking in the oven! Bake a variety of cookies and plate them up to give to your neighbors for a Christmas treat. Or bake several batches of one kind of cookie and host a cookie exchange, where you and your friends exchange cookies with each other. Not sure what kind of cookies to make? You can’t go wrong with sugar cookies for the kids to decorate with icing or colored sprinkles. Gingerbread cookies are always a holiday hit and for a Christmas twist on traditional chocolate chip cookies, add some red and green M&M’s to the batter.
-
Step 4
Go Christmas caroling. Christmas caroling has fallen by the wayside in recent years, but it’s a fun way to bring the spirit of Christmas to your neighbors. Go online to find lyrics to your favorite Christmas songs and print out enough copies for all of your fellow carolers. Go door to door and sing the songs to your neighbors, or you can just stroll the streets and wait for the neighbors to come outside. Either way, this is another fun thing to do during the Christmas season and it’s a great activity to do with kids.
-
Step 5
Watch the classic Christmas movies and specials. Take some time out of your busy Christmas schedule to relax and watch some movies. Classics like “It’s a Wonderful Life”, “A Christmas Story” and “Miracle on 34th Street” are shown often during the Christmas season. And classic Christmas TV specials, like “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer," “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and “A Charlie Brown Christmas” are must-see TV that will surely fill you with Christmas spirit.
-
Step 6
Volunteer, but don’t overextend yourself. If your church is hosting a Christmas bazaar or your children’s school needs help with the Christmas parties, go ahead and volunteer to help out. Just make sure you don’t commit yourself to too many activities. You can really fill yourself with Christmas spirit by volunteering to help an underprivileged family. Many organizations have programs where you can be a “Secret Santa” for a needy child.

Step 7
Remember the true meaning of Christmas. If your heart is empty, it will be difficult to fill yourself with Christmas spirit. Remember the true meaning of Christmas: the birth of Christ. Plan to attend Christmas church services with your family and donate to charities who can help those who are less fortunate than you.
