Things You'll Need:
- Bathtub
- Face cloth
- Towel
- Baby shampoo and soap
-
Step 1
Keep all your supplies handy before you start. You should have the bath tub, a facecloth, a towel, baby wash, a good safe place to put the tub, and water within your reach. If a baby bathtub is not available and you are going to use the kitchen sink, just remember to put a towel down inside for a little cushion. Move all the dishes out of the way, too, so that your baby doesn’t accidentally knock them over on the floor or onto themselves.
-
Step 2
Keep the water low. The sink or tub only needs two or three inches of room temperature water. Most tubs have a slanted side that holds baby’s head up. If not, be sure to support his back and head.
-
Step 3
Clean the eyes. Once the baby is situated, dip the face cloth in the water (no soap) and gently pat his eyes starting at the inside corner and wiping outward. Next, wipe the whole face and behind the ears.
-
Step 4
Wash the hair. Next you can wet the baby’s head and apply a tiny amount of shampoo (pea sized), lather it up and rinse out by squeezing water out of the face cloth over Baby’s head. Continue until the head and hair rinses clean.
-
Step 5
Lather the body. For the body, rub baby’s body in circles with the face cloth and soap, starting at the neck, washing the baby’s front, back, then legs and feet and between the toes. Next, wash your baby’s private parts and in between the folds of the upper thighs. Remember for girls to wash front to back to avoid infections. Lastly, lean the baby to the side and wash the bottom before rinsing him off with the face cloth and water.
-
Step 6
Dry the baby off. A towel should already be spread out as you carefully lift the baby up and out of the tub and lay him down and wrap him up snuggly.
