Things You'll Need:
- Nylon scraper or brush with stiff bristles
-
Step 1
Season stoneware before using it. To season your stoneware you need to spray it with a vegetable oil for the first few uses. You can also bake high fat items on the stoneware the first few times you use it. You will notice that your stoneware has developed what resembles a non stick finish when it is fully seasoned.
-
Step 2
Scrape any stuck-on food from the stoneware using a stoneware scraper, which is just a small piece of plastic that comes with the stoneware. You can also use a nylon bristle scrub brush.
-
Step 3
Clean your stoneware using hot water and a sponge only. Do not use soap as it will break down the seasoning (which keeps items from sticking to the stone).
-
Step 4
Place your stoneware in the oven at 200 degrees for a few minutes if you feel your stoneware is not clean enough, as this will kill any germs or bacteria. You can then turn off your oven and allow the stoneware to cool before putting it away.
