Things You'll Need:
- Costume accessories
- Street Clothes
-
Step 1
Add a layer to your teen Halloween costumes. One thing you can do is to take commercially purchased teen Halloween costumes and alter the costume to make it more appropriate by adding street clothes to it. A typical teen superhero costume can be toned down by wearing a matching dance leotard underneath the costume. A short teen witch costume can be made more appropriate with the addition of a turtle neck and a pair of jeans beneath the costume, which would turn the costume into a hip modern witch instead of a sexy witch.
-
Step 2
Re-design a costume. You can take bits and pieces of store purchased costumes and redesign the costume using items from the thrift store or your closet. Take a short disco dress for example and get a pair of wide leg bell bottom jeans to add to it. To make the jeans match the top (that used to be a dress) cut a strip of fabric from the bottom of the top and set it to the jeans or use it as the belt.
-
Step 3
Add costume accessories to your own clothes. For an angel costume you can wear a pair of white jeans and white sweater, add back the wings, and halo that you can purchase individually from the store. Or you can wear street clothes under costumes that resemble everyday items such as a box of cereal or a Pac-man character.
-
Step 4
Dress like a television or movie star. You can skip store purchased costumes altogether and look to the television of starts to emulate. Now to have an appropriate Halloween costume, you would have to pick someone to dress as who would normally dress appropriately. Some fun ideas for TV or movie star costumes are Dr. Phil and Robin, Oprah Winfrey, Rachel Ray, the cast of Heroes, People from American Idol. You can also choose to create some classic costumes such as the Wizard of Oz, or Gone with the Wind using items from your own closet and a bit of imagination.

on 8/22/2009 Great suggestions! Teens are kind of "in between" for this holiday, aren't they? How about becoming a monster in a Halloween theme park show? Take a look:
