Completely uninstalling Windows Media Player 11 isn't as straight forward as uninstalling most software from your PC, but there are only a couple of extra steps that are fairly easy to perform.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Windows Media Player 11 (These instructions are ONLY for version 11)
Step1
Go to the Start menu and choose "Control Panel." From this menu, select "Add or Remove Programs."
Step2
At the top of the Add or Remove Programs screen, locate and check the "Show Updates" box. This displays the software updates for the programs currently installed on your computer.
Step3
Scroll until you find Window Media Format 11 runtime and Windows Media Player 11. They will probably be located next to one another.
Step4
Open Windows Media Player 11 and click "Remove." This is a larger file and may take several minutes to complete. Click "OK" to any confirmation windows. Restart your computer.
Step5
Go back the Control Panel and select "Add or Remove Programs," check the "Show Updates" box again and find Windows Media Format 11 runtime.
Step6
Open "Windows Media Format 11 runtime" and click "Remove." Click "OK" on the confirmation boxes that appear at the end of the removal process. Restart your computer.
Step7
Go back into the Control Panel and again select "Add or Remove Programs."
Step8
From the list, find Microsoft User-Mode Driver Frameworks Feature Pack 1.0. Click "Remove." Follow the instructions through the process.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the Wudf01000 box appears when you are removing Microsoft User-Mode Driver Frameworks Feature Pack 1.0, click "Yes" to continue and then click "Finish."
