Things You'll Need:
- iPod
- Patience
- Ingenuity
-
Step 1
Turn off your iPod by holding down the "Play/Pause" button for two or three seconds. The screen should go blank and your iPod will remain off until you turn it back on again by holding down the "Play/Pause" button.
-
Step 2
Let your iPod go to sleep. When an iPod isn't used for 2 to 3 minutes it automatically goes into "sleep" mode. The screen will go black until you touch any of the controls. This uses considerably less battery power than when the iPod is in use.
-
Step 3
Keep your iPod sleeping by engaging the "Hold" switch. The "Hold" switch is the sliding bar on the top of your iPod. When you put the iPod on hold it will lock the screen, making it impossible for your iPod to accidentally turn on again. It's like locking your cell phone to avoid pocket calls.
-
Step 4
Reset an improperly disconnected iPod by simultaneously holding down the "Menu" and "Select" buttons. It may take a few seconds, but you should eventually see the Apple logo appear and the iPod will reset.
-
Step 5
Restart a frozen iPod by toggling the "Hold" switch. This typically works on older generation iPods. By moving the "Hold" switch back and forth between the on/off positions, your iPod's click wheel will often begin responding again.
