Play Basketball Around the World

A great way to improve your basketball skills is to play a game of Around the World. The game is usually played with two players or more, but you can practice the shots on your own. You can play either on a regular basketball court, or be creative and play under a portable net by marking out the positions on your own. Read on to learn how to play basketball 'Around the World.'

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Basketball net
  • Basketball
  • Basketball court with key or other marked area
  1. Step 1

Gameplay usually begins at the edge of the key on either side of the basketball net. If you are familiar with the key that is marked on a regular basketball court, you can copy the same key positions on your driveway, street or blacktop where your net is located. You can use chalk, paint, or some players even have used rocks to mark the positions.

  2. Step 2

There are four positions on either side of the basket, the foul shot and the shot directly under the basket. The players must move around the whole key in order to win the game.

  3. Step 3

The first player shoots, and if he makes the shot, moves onto the next position on the key. The player will continue in this fashion, moving around the key until he misses a shot.

  4. Step 4

Once a shot is missed, the player has the opportunity to take a chance shot. If he makes this shot, he gets to continue on, if he misses, he has to go back to the beginning and start all over again. The player may also opt to stay at the position in which he missed the shot, and wait for his turn again to try it again. At this point, player two will proceed from the starting position and follow the same pattern as the previous player.

  5. Step 5

The match is finally won when one of the players makes a shot from the position directly under the basket and then the final at the center of the three-point line.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be sure when marking any blacktop, driveway, or street area, that you have the proper permission. If using stones, be sure to return them to the area from which you got them.
