Acupuncture helps promote circulation and muscle relaxation, so it can put your body in a calm state as well as release blockages related to stress. In Chinese terms, acupuncture assists the flow of Chi (energy) throughout your body.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Purchase a book about acupuncture or read information online. In order to get the full benefits of acupuncture, it's important to familiarize yourself with the treatment so you are comfortable during the session.

  2. Step 2

Determine how stress is affecting your body. What is causing your stress? Are you having headaches, migraines, skin irritations, pain, depression, or anxiety? The acupuncturist will need to know what your problems are so he/she can develop an appropriate treatment plan.

  3. Step 3

Schedule a consultation with a local acupuncturist. Check where they went to school. Also discuss the problems you are having and find out how the acupuncturist plans to help you.

  4. Step 4

Talk to the acupuncturist about auricular (ear) acupuncture. This involves 4 or 5 needles that are placed on certain areas of the ear that correspond to specific body parts. For example, stress causes high blood pressure so your heart may need attention.

  5. Step 5

Wear comfortable clothes to your treatment session and take deep breaths to try and relax. Since acupuncture targets blood circulation, it will help the body release toxins like cortisol, which builds up when your body is stressed.

Tips & Warnings
  • Ask your friends or co-workers if they know a reputable acupuncturist.
  • Schedule your session during a part of your day that you can rest for a short time afterward. Acupuncture leaves some patients feeling drowsy.
  • Make sure that your acupuncturist uses sterile needles.
