We are fortunate to live in a time when people are living longer, healthier lives. To live your life to the fullest, you should stay sharp. There are several steps you can take to sharpen your mind and keep it that way.

Exercise your brain. Play word and number games like crossword puzzles and sudoku. Learn a new language or how to play a musical instrument. Read, play board games and take interesting classes. Find things that you enjoy which are mentally stimulating to keep your mind sharp.

Exercise your body. Researchers have found a direct correlation between increased physical activity and increased brain activity. In particular, get lots of aerobic exercise. The oxygen will boost your brain power.

Watch your diet. Staying at or getting to a healthy weight will help keep you sharp. Make sure your diet includes brain food, such as salmon, flax and olive oil for maximum sharpness.

Catch your z's. Not getting enough sleep will sap your brain power and cause you to be unfocused and definitely not your sharpest.

De-stress. Find healthy ways to deal with the inevitable stress in your life. Go for a walk, talk to a friend, or take a relaxing bubble bath. Too much stress will keep you from staying sharp.
