How to Use an Onion to Deodorize a Cat Litter Box
Use an onion to reduce the odor from a cat litter box? This doesn't make sense at first, but there's some valid science behind it. The same chemicals that make you cry when you cut the onion act as a germ killer to reduce the bacteria that produce that cat box odor.
Things You'll Need
- Cat litter box
- Onion
- Small bowl to place the onion halves in
- Baking soda (optional)
Instructions
-
-
1
Get an onion. It doesn't matter what color the onion is, so just buy the cheapest you can find.
-
2
Cut the onion in half across its equator. This exposes the maximum cut surface. You can also cut the halves in half.
-
-
3
Place the cut onion in an open bowl or box that is close to the litter box but out of sight.
-
4
You can also place the onion pieces in the litter box at first and then move them to the bowl.
-
5
Replace the onion as it deteriorates.

Onions are toxic to cats so make sure your cat doesn't like to eat them (for some crazy reason!)
