Black Forest cakes are an elegant and delicious dessert. Don't let its beautiful assembly mystify you. Use this guide to make your cake look just as delectable as it tastes.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3 layers of Black Forest cake
  • 2 1/4 cup cherries, divided
  • 1 cup buttercream filling
  • 1/2 cup confectioners sugar
  • 1 cup whipped cream
  • 1 small chocolate bar
  • Vegetable peeler
  1. Step 1

    Place one cake layer on a cake plate. Spread 1/2 of the buttercream filling over the top. Dry 3/4 cup of cherries on a paper towel and spread them evenly over the top of the butter cream.

  2. Step 2

    Place the second layer of the cake on top of the cherries. Repeat Step 1 using the other half of the buttercream filling and another 3/4 cup cherries

  3. Step 3

    Place the third layer of the cake on the top of the cherries of layer two. Fold 2 tablespoons of confectioners sugar into the whipped cream. Cover the sides and the top of the cake with the whipped cream mixture. Decorate the top of the cake with the remaining cherries and use any design you like.

  4. Step 4

    To make chocolate shavings for the top of the cake, shave a chocolate bar using a vegetable peeler. Refrigerate curls until you are ready to serve the cake.

  5. Step 5

    Before serving, press the chocolate curls onto the sides and top of the cake.

Tips & Warnings
  • This cake should be served chilled.
