Step 1
If your shirt has a collar, pull it up to keep it out of the way. Drape scarf around neck, with one end substantially shorter than the other. The long end has to do all the work of the knot, so you need enough material to work with!
-
Step 2
Cross the long end of the scarf over the narrow end.
-
Step 3
Bring the long end underneath the shorter end, straight up toward the collar and through the loop around the collar.
-
Step 4
Flip scarf back over the left side of the collar loop.
-
Step 5
Now slide the long end of the scarf underneath the shorter end.
-
Step 6
Bring the long end of the scarf up again, straight toward the collar.
-
Step 7
Push through the loop around the collar, pulling longer part of scarf towards the right side of the collar. You should now have two small loops, one on each side of the small end of the scarf. This is where you can adjust the size of the finished knot--pull these loops tighter for a smaller knot, leave them looser for a fatter knot.
-
Step 8
Drape long end of scarf over the two loops.
-
Step 9
Wrap scarf underneath and bring up through the loop around the collar. You can see your Windsor knot formed.
-
Step 10
Thread long part of scarf through the top loop of your knot. Pull straight down. Adjust so scarf sits right at the center button of the collar. Fold collar back down (or just fold the tips of the collar down) and your full Windsor knot is complete.
-
Step 11
Since the knot is so full, you may wish to leave the top button open to allow more room for the knot between the points of your collar.
-
Step 12
This attractive knot can also be worn with collarless tops, to show off the beauty of your scarf and neckline!
