Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Get a good start. If your tool is gas powered, make sure it is full. If it is electric, make sure it is plugged in securely. This will prevent potential inconvenient stops.
Step2
Clear the area. Rocks and other obstacles will wear out the nylon cutting thread.
Step3
Hold the weed whacker low to the ground and get comfortable before turning on. Once on, start moving the tool side to side while you walk forward.
Step4
Adjust as needed. If you find that the grass is not getting cut, it is probably an indication that you need about six more inches of cutting thread. Some models have a button to push that dispenses the thread while others you have to pull manually.
Step5
Use safety. Safety is a big issue when operating a weed whacker as it is in the same class as a chain saw or a wood chipper. So make sure you put on sturdy pants, closed toe shoes, protective eyewear and gloves and proceed with caution.
