How to Apply Dark Contour Color Eyeshadows

When you want a dramatic eye makeup look, applying dark contour colors can add an air of mystery to your face. Skillful application and a practiced hand will make you look like a makeup pro. This is a good look for evening or special occasion makeup, but even a light-handed approach to contour makeup can be worn at the office.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Eyeshadows in various colors
  • Eyeshadow brushes
  1. Step 1

Apply a neutral or light colored eyeshadow all over your eyelids with a makeup brush.

  2. Step 2

Use a different brush to apply the dark contour colors.

  3. Step 3

Start at the outside of your eyelid.

  4. Step 4

Apply dark shadows in the crease of your lid with an angled makeup brush.

  5. Step 5

Keep the dark color on the outer half of your eyelid. This makes your eyes appear wide set and is a useful technique for women whose eyes are set close together.

  6. Step 6

Blend well over your eyelid with a flat makeup brush.

Tips & Warnings
  • Play around with different colored eyeshadows to see what flatters you best. Dark shadows make your eyes recede. Try dark violet, charcoal or dark brown as contour colors.
  • Don't apply dark contour shadows over your entire eyelid. The contour is only to add depth and the look will be too dark if applied all over.
