Instructions

    • 1

Steam clean your carpets, curtains and any linens that have come in contact with your pets. Dog beds and other soft materials should also be cleaned at the same time that you are treating your pets for fleas, so there is no risk of reinfection.

    • 2

Visit your local health food store to buy Diatomaceous Earth (DE), a natural product made out of pulverized sedimentary rock. DE is safe to be used around pets, but deadly to fleas, so it can be spread around the house and let stand for 24 hours before it can be vacuumed.

    • 3

Comb your dog after walks to get rid of any fleas that may have jumped into the hair from grass or contact with other animals. Combs will help you get rid not only of adult fleas but also of eggs. Make sure you catch and kill any fleas you pick up to avoid the bugs from taking residence in the furniture or the carpet.

Mix baking soda with lemon juice and then add enough water to make it a whitish liquid. You can spray the mix on couches and rugs or use it to clean surfaces where your pets sleep. You are unlikely to get rid of eggs this way, but you will kill adult fleas, cutting the cycle short.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not use borax or garlic powder on or around pets. They can be risky or even deadly if ingested.
